I get this book every winter in preparation for what to divide and put where, and to help make lists of what to get at plant sales and nurseries - it gets me excited for spring. The book includes trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and bulbs and will often have heirloom varieties that may have fallen out of vogue - I've found some wonderful annuals this way for which I subsequently have ordered seeds - most nurseries only stock what's popular. Often, particular cultivars will have alternates listed for creating either a different effect or to lengthen the display time. There are other editions of this volume, published in different years, all provide slightly different combos and all are the perfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee on a winter morning.
