This sharp mystery novel is mostly about horrible people doing horrible things. In some respects, the central mystery is overshadowed by Flynn's successful use of extremely creepy horror elements. I was disappointed to see Flynn struggle with her pacing throughout this book; the middle section plods along like an overburdened pack mule! But the clever story wraps up with a few pointy surprises at the end, so it's all good.
