Guapa is a fascinating, moving and powerful read telling the story of Rasa who struggles to come to terms with who he is and who he wants to be while trying to find his place in Arab society. It gives insight into the experience of being marginalized as a homosexual in a culture that doesn't recognize the western construct of a "gay identity". The background of the story encompasses his involvement the Arab Spring and being a student in the US during 9/11. Debut novel, hopefully there will be more to follow.
