The concept of the book has potential, but I intensely disliked Shane. The beginning of the story is ridiculous. Two or more female characters lead this panting guy around by the ring in his nose. All of his troubles begin with Shane's absurd decision to play Sir Galahad and rescue his former girlfriend from an abusive but highly decorated police officer who was once his partner. His relationship with another prostitute and taking responsibility for her rebellious teenage son is beyond my belief. By the end of the story I was rooting for the paper-cutout bad guys to remove the "hero" from the story. Oh yea, the ending pours pickle juice over the day-old cupcake.
