The Perfect Summer: England 1911, Just Before the Storm. --- by Juliet Nicolson I have become that dreadful of a creature. I have become the grumpy reader. And I owe much of that to books such as this. This history is mostly about Lord Tweedle Dum and his wife Tweedle Dee. It is about mistresses and corsets and people who die of smokers’ throat. And let's not forget the running of the Ascot (or was that the Epsom?) It is written by an author who, most importantly, describes herself according to her hyphenated lineage. Us egalitarian peasants never got past the first few pages.
