After taking on a foreclosure case, defense attorney Mickey Haller must prove his client's innocence -- but first he must follow a trail of black market evidence to its sinister end.
Mickey Haller has fallen on tough times. He expands his business into foreclosure defense, only to see one of his clients accused of killing the banker she blames for trying to take away her home.
Mickey puts his team into high gear to exonerate Lisa Trammel, even though the evidence and his own suspicions tell him his client is guilty. Soon after he learns that the victim had black market dealings of his own, Haller is assaulted, too -- and he's certain he's on the right trail.

Despite the danger and uncertainty, Haller mounts the best defense of his career in a trial where the last surprise comes after the verdict is in. Connelly proves again why he "may very well be the best novelist working in the United States today" ( San Francisco Chronicle ).

Unfortunately couldn’t read this book, smells musty and I have allergies.

Although I much prefer the Harry Bosch novels, this is my favourite Mickey Haller novel to date and the first one I've given five stars. Connelly delivers a much finer first-person narrative than usual and provides a meandering menagerie of twists and turns. I also have to say the courtroom drama even matches or beats John Grisham on his best day. Highly recommended can't-put-down read.

Another good Lincoln Lawyer read.

I am just becoming acquainted with Mike Connelly's books. This one had an interesting ending, one I would not have figured on-not your typical "justice prevails." I think I like the Harry Bosch character better so far. I have read 5 books so far so I may change my preference. I enjoy Connelly's writings because he gives you a good working knowledge of the legal system and law enforcement. I found that if I write down the abbreviations, it helps me follow the flow of the story better.

Great book, well written and enjoyed the ending. Looking forward to my next Connelly adventure. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed unless you do not like court room drama.

My first of Connelly's books. A good book, with lots of twists and turns, but was getting impatient to finish.... Found it was dragging on.... So I'm not that impressed so far. He won't be one of my favourite writers based on this first experience. Will try another one to see if I like it better. Gave it 3*

disappointing - easy to figure out

Loved this legal thriller. The court sequences were terrific - with all the suspense of the original Grisham novels. The ending was a bit wobbly, but, in total, the novel was highly satisfying!

Well written, fast-paced book that was an enjoyable read. Couldn't put it down! Also provided some insight into the USA foreclosure crisis. Recommended!

I really liked the background information on foreclosure but was pretty disappointed with the ending. I also found that Mickey Haller was acting and talking like Matthew McConaughey throughout the entire book. Alittle too Hollywood for me.
