Not all sequels are created equal. And, sadly, this is the case for Dark Prophecy. The first book, Level 26 Dark Origins was masterfully well crafted, edge of the seat mystery into depravity and twisted to the core of the villain. It was dark and grungy and made me cringe. The sequel made me want to sip a pina colada on a beach while relaxing, as the hero tackles his difficulties and gets involved, years later, into a series of gruesome murders. But, minus the psycho mindset, minus the tension, minus the squeamish cringes, minus, minus so much that it lacked the forceful debut of the first book.

The ONLY saving grace to this sequel is that the end is left in sequel mode once again, and with the promise of a more tantalizing follow up, as a new organization is about to be created to handle the Level 26 murderers (the most depraved type of serial killers) that pervade our world, with the hero as the leading investigator.

Otherwise, any more of the series' books should be Level 26'd thereafter.
