I didn't find that this book held my interest very well. One particular thing that I felt hard to accept (because my mother lived through this era in Slave Lake), was the modern day usage of the term "First Nation people" (page 38). The time period of this part of the book is during the Second World War. The words most often used at this time were Indian or half-breed. According to the Canadian Encyclopedia, "In 1980, hundreds of chiefs met in Ottawa and used “First Nations” for the first time in their Declaration of the First Nations. In 1982, the National Indian Brotherhood became the Assembly of First Nations, the political voice for First Nations people in Canada."
