By Jenn McKinlay, author of the Library Lover's mysteries and the Cupcake Bakery mysteries, writing as Josie Belle

Maggie Gerber-one of the founding members of the Good Buy Birls- loves her quiet life in St. Stanley, Virginia. But all that changes when Sam Collins, her old flame, moves back to town as the new sheriff. On top of that, Claire Freemont, a librarian and the newest member of the Good Buy Girls, starts acting utterly strange.

When Maggie goes to visit her the next day at the library, she finds the body of a very dead man. Turns out the man is someone from Claire's past. As the handsome new sheriff zeroes in on Claire, it's up to Maggie and the rest of the Good Buy Girls to use their bargain-hunting skills to hunt a killer-while making sure they don't pay too much in the process...

Boring mystery. The women should have found out who the killer was instead of eating cake and shopping for sales at discount stores all the time. 50% off Murder was not worth reading. And, I wouldn't recommend reading it at all.

My first Belle book: Adorable. Read it yesterday between chores, but couldn't remember this morning who died. :-) Took a minute, but it all came back. Laughed out loud several times, and like the characters very much--had no trouble remembering the "Stephanie-Plum-type" scrapes they got themselves into, just who dies... The "romance" part of this reminds me of Sandra Parshall--40 year old women who, in relationships with men, have all the emotional maturity of a 14 year old girl. The brand name dropping was wasted on me, but would probably set some of my friends hearts racing. I am planning to read the rest of the series.

Very quick read. Most of the new cosies just don't meet the standards of the old one. Love the other comments about this particular book and agree with most of the comments. I wouldn't bother reading another one by this author.

Below average. I guess these cozy mysteries have increased in popularity because of the bad economy. Good premise, bad execution. Some of these characters are too stupid to live & lousy detectives, too. And some of the saving tips are lousy, too.

I know all these perky-heroine-small-town-romance-with-the-good-cop-loyal-circle-of-girlfriends-recipes-in-the-back-of-the-book mysteries are written according a strict formula like Harlequin Romances, but I think this one was written by a machine.

"1st in a new series." Definite focus on the bargain hunting, and a bit of relationship nonsense - so a new kind of "cozy?" Worth a quick read.
