[addressing a huge flock of penguins]
The Penguin: My dear penguins, we stand on a great threshold! It's okay to be scared; many of you won't be coming back. Thanks to Batman, the time has come to punish *all* God's children! 1st, 2nd, 3rd *and* 4th-born! Why be biased? Male and female! Hell, the sexes are equal with their erogenous zones blown sky high! Forward march! The liberation of Gotham has begun!

Selina Kyle: Wow, *the* Batman - or is it just "Batman"? Uh, your choice, of course!
[Batman walks away]
Selina Kyle: Well, that was very brief. Just like all the men in my life.

Simply put, Batman Returns is a good movie. It follows Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton) through a political and economic conflict with businessman Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) who is good but severely underused, and the Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot (Danny Devito) a malformed man whose life of growing up in a sewer has made him both animalistic and unexplainably powerful. Also joining the cast is a fantastically portrayed Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer), a mistreated secretary who gains the power of performing gymnastics in a skintight suit after an attempted murder leaves her with a traumatic brain injury, and one of the only Batman movie love interests who feels truly three-dimensional. The plot is a tangle of municipal politics, but the real driving force of the movie’s excellence is the kooky characters with whom Batman goes toe to toe. Although much darker than the first movie, Batman Returns is also fuller— everyone feels rounder as a character, more realized, entertaining, and often tragic. Burton is in his full Burtonistic element after Batman (1989), and the result is a superior and enjoyable sequel that leaves one vaguely uncomfortable but is also, to put it simply, very good. 4/5.

Solid sequel to the Tim Burton Batman series. Loved Danny DeVito, Christopher Walken, and the gorgeous Michelle Pfeiffer!

A political scandal film steeped in the trimmings of a comic book hero flick and drenched in a noir detective tale -- that's how I like my Batman. Pfeiffer embodies the antihero role of Selina Kyle, my favourite Catwoman by far. Danny DeVito provides the icing as the crude sewer-dwelling Penguin who is bent on revenge and isn't beyond blackmail to get what he wants. Batman is just the cherry on top, out of sight for much of the film, owing to the fact that the story is crafted so well that it doesn't need the theatrics of the Caped Crusader to amplify audience interest. What a wonderful adventure into the frosty Gotham City. This is one of the best Batman stories, no question, and I absolutely recommend it.

This Is Hands Down The Best Batman Sequel. Great Acting And Story Telling. Sadly It's The Last Time Michael Keaton Plays The Role.

The most entertaining Batman film(although not what I would call the "best" -- that honour goes, of course, to THE DARK KNIGHT). Fantastic villains that make the film. Horrifying at moments (everybody knows the nose). Perfectly captured with Tim Burton's not-yet-pretentious brushstrokes of mood infusion. Pfeiffer's Catwoman is delightful, with a little-known moment of movie magic being her transformative scene, going from dowdy to dangerous with the flick of a switch (or the swish of a long kitty tail). A great flick, memorable and rewatchable. Recommended.

Tim Burton gave us one of the best Batman flicks ever made. All of Burton's darkness comes out in this film. A must see, if you haven't already seen it.
