We both enjoyed this one, which surprised me because you'd think since each of the twins is sometimes suicidal, the subject matter is a little bleak. But there are also some very funny bits which lightened the bleakness a little, and I found the characters multi-layered and interesting and the acting very good. I agree, though, that the film isn't for everyone.

I should have read thecomments before taking this movie home. The cover of the dvd seems to indicate a comedy but it is definitely not! Seriously depressed siblings who continually make poor life choices. The comedic parts, well especially the laughing gas scene - pffft - puerile.

Depressing, and not in an interesting or entertaining way, just depressing.

I enjoyed this movie, but many people will not. Expect a drama with some funny moments rather than a straightforward comedy. Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader are very believable as estranged twins with a lot of issues. I liked their performances and Luke Wilson's a lot. Without giving anything away, I will say that this movie lost me a bit with its ending; I probably would have rated it as great if the ending had been more believable. Its director's next movie is Wilson, which was filmed in and around the Twin Cities and will be released in March 2017. I recommend The Skeleton Twins for fans of independent films. The movie is rated R for language, some sexuality and drug use.

Depressing family with congenital suicidosis. Belly-button gazing galore.

THE SKELETON TWINS exceeded my expectations by a landslide. Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are perfect together, their bottled-magic chemistry spot-on for siblings who find solace in each other. With such a natural conversational flow, I wonder how much was penned in advance and how much was ad libbed. The central characters are flawed, horribly dysfunctional but trying to function nonetheless, which is more realistic than cookie-cutter images that damage the self-esteem of an audience who can't relate. A little more broken than the norm but working back to happiness, this dynamic duo clash with the supporting cast, especially the glowing ball of happiness that is Luke Wilson. I won't ruin the details of this film since it's well worth the watch. It boils down to a slice-of-life film about . . . well, life. Shining the light on familial imperfection, THE SKELETON TWINS is harsher and more adult than flicks like LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE or PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER but in the same vein. I truly enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.

I liked it. A story about a couple of sibling wingnuts, like "skeletons" in the family closet. Not a true comedy, altho it has its' moments, but a rather painful acknowledgement of the dysfunction that exists in a lot of families. In fact, probably most families, just not necessarily to this extent. Worth a look.

Watch this film with an open mind. The movie is not a comedy but does have funny moments. Very well made too. It covers the relationship between twins that have not seen each other for 10 years. You slowly begin to learn more about their past and how they go to where they are. Both are very flawed which provides a good difference with this movie.

I'm sorry to see so many people were expecting a comedy with these two actors, though that's understandable. The movie is brilliant! Poignant! AND funny as heck in places! (Their duet of Heart to Heart--wow!) The twins are flawed individuals, as they themselves understand, due to their upbringing by troubled parents. Wiig's exceptional acting range is affecting, and Hader's solid all the way. (A more "flat" performance by Wiig is seen in "Hateship/Loveship," another unusual, original, and very good film.) This is drama for grown ups, and it's an uncommonly fine movie.

Very disappointing.
I watched because I like both Hader and Wiig from SNL.
As has been stated, this is not a comedy.
It is a story about two psychologically damaged siblings, who make a lot of really bad decisions.
I pulled the plug after 60 minutes.
Not my cup of tea.
