Told with wit, style, and compassion, this is the story of friendship among three women weathering the ups and downs of life in a small Midwestern town. When Odette, Clarice, and Barbara Jean meet as teenagers in the mid-sixties, the civil rights movement is moving along and so are their everyday lives. Their regular gathering place is Earl's All-You-Can-Eat diner, the first black-owned business in downtown Plainview, Indiana. Dubbed the Supremes by their friends, the inseparable trio is watched over by big-hearted Earl during their complicated high school days, and then every Sunday after church as they marry, and have children and grandchildren. Sitting at the same table for almost forty years, these best friends grow up, gossip, and face the world together with pointed humor, some sorrow, and much joy. Meet Odette, Clarice, and Barbara Jean--once you meet them, they will be your friends forever...

The first few chapters are cliche but then you come to love and appreciate the characters for who they are. Think: "The Help" meets "Fried Green Tomatoes". I laughed out loud a couple of times and I wished I were as sassy as Odette.

This is my favorite book I've listened to in 2015 - yes, it's only March, but I think it's going to stay at the top of the list.
It is so creative and funny to me! I hope Edward Kelsey Moore writes another soon.

This was such a wonderful book. Loved it in the audiobook version. A fun journey the 3 friends who call themselves the "Supremes" took growing up together to adulthood. Laughed out loud at times and cried too. Good - Good book!

This audiobook is a delight! I had not heard of it prior to borrowing it but I am so glad I found it. The 3 main characters leap out as distinct personalities but even the sub-characters are well developed. I agree with the opinion noted here that if you enjoy Fannie Flagg, you'll enjoy this book. Would definitely recommend.

Read-alike for The Help

While I enjoyed this book and thought it was better than average (hence the 3 star rating) and thought it was a light, fun read, I thought the writing was just so-so. The characters are quirky and fun, the story line while being a serious subject was told in a very amusing way and the friendships were touching. I think readers who enjoy Fannie Flag would like this book.
