A weak plot buried in a sludge of superfluous details. Gave up after 171 pgs.

Quite possibly one of the most comprehensively clichéd cheeseballs I've ever read. Is this the kind of dreck that makes someone a bestselling author?

Great read!

Very appropriate...as in 'one good deed deserves another'. Archer could have kept all the money but he remembered the good deed of a chattel!

Love Archer! I'm late to this series but happy to be able to read three in a row!!

Honesty and (relative) innocence combine in an engaging story about a nice man. One Good Deed is nowhere as dull as that sentence.

Fun read, a Noir mystery. Humphrey Bogart could be playing the lead. Set in Oklahoma and true to the form.

A gritty mystery novel which introduces a new series and character for this popular author. Aloysius Archer is out of jail for a crime he didn't commit. He is looking for a new start after his stint in jail; on top of serving as a soldier…

I am quite the fan of David Baldacci and have read quite a few of his books. He is an extremely skilled story-teller with a most gifted imagination and knack for details. Still, I wasn't really impressed with "One Good Deed" ... it is…

An extremely well-written novel by one of my favorite authors. I really didn't guess the answer to the mystery until it was revealed at the very end. The characters were very well explored, and I really felt the humanity, especially in the…

Baldacci is one of my favorite authors and never disappoints. He is a great story teller and very good at developing characters. A most entertaining book.

Another David Baldacci winner. I loved this new character and the storyline was fabulous. I was hooked from page 1. I would definitely recommend the read.

Nice to read about this new character.

While crime stories aren't my first choice, I've read quite a few of Baldacci's who is a true master of the genre. That said, this was far from my favorite due to a somewhat predictable outcome and mediocre characters. Well paced like all…

this was a very different Baldacci book-new character in an older time. I found it a little slow at the beginning, but realized that the author was bringing in a new character that had to be introduced gradually with events that were…

An enjoyable mystery/detective story featuring Archer, an ex-army WWII soldier who finds himself embroiled in solving murders he is being accused of committing. The action occurs in a small farming town in a southern state some time after…

I really enjoyed this book. I hadn’t read what it was about before placing the hold so I was a little surprised when I got it. I’m glad I gave it a chance. I have read all of his other books and this is one of my favourites. I hope he…

This was a fantastic read--kept me up for 2 nights until I finished it! A history buff, especially for major war periods, I consider myself well-read, reading 2-3 books each week plus 6 magazines and the daily AJC. So I disagree with…

Pretty disappointed. Far too many paragraphs devoted to describing what each character is wearing, and they change clothes a lot. Again, poor knowledge of firearms: anybody who tries to "fan" a double-action Detective Special will tear…

David Baldacci is a skilled writer with lots of titles. This novel, while a departure from his usual work, is still a worthy read. The author sees to be expanding his writing style and it is not without some hiccups. It is period novel,…

Read and commented over a dozen of good to excellent Baldacci's novels and this one does not read the same, as if by collaboration with a lessor writer, like one of those from the publishing mill of James Patterson. Apparently to be a new…

In this very good read, Baldacci introduces a new character in Archer, whom we have likely not heard the last of. This was an interesting book, given that it was time set in the late 40's not long after WW2. The characters , dress, and…

I'm used to reading present day books by David Baldacci. This book set in 1949 was different and it took a little 'getting used to.' Aloysius Archer is released from prison - after a sentence he shouldn't have been serving. He is sent to…
